**Nov 2018 update: Yo Sushi now has more vegan options than ever, including vegan mayo! I believe almost all their veggie dishes are in fact vegan now 🙂 Just visit the menu on their website and apply the “vegan” filter to see what’s available!**
Yo! Sushi is one of those restaurants that’s in my repertoire of regular places to visit, particularly when I want something quick and relatively healthy. What I like about Yo Sushi is that no matter which branch you visit, whether in Leicester, London or beyond, you can pretty much guarantee the same standard of quality, making it a safe choice when traveling about the country. It’s a great place for vegans and vegetarians as well, with plenty of different vegan options on the menu. The menus in the restaurants aren’t clearly labelled as vegan (which is a shame), but you can find them online.
I have to say, I like pretty much every vegan dish, but my go-to staples always include avocado maki and vegetable yakisoba. Here is a rundown of all the vegan dishes at Yo Sushi:
- Miso soup
- Edamame salad
- Aubergine salad
- Kaiso salad
- Sunomono salad
- Vegetable firecracker rice
- Pumpkin katsu
- Pumpkin katsu curry
- Vegetable gyoza
- Miso baked aubergine
- Vegetable tempura
- Inari pocket
- Kaiso gunkan
- Cucumber maki
- Avocado maki (ask for no mayo)
Yo Sushi just recently revamped their menu, but I’m glad to see they are still catering for the vegan crowd. The only thing I saw missing was the tofu katsu curry (one of my favorites), which has been replaced by pumpkin katsu curry. Oh, and if you order the veggie tempura you won’t get a piece of fried avocado with it any more. boo.
If you’ve never been to Yo Sushi before, you’re in for a treat. The restaurants feature a conveyor belt where you pull your plates directly off the belt as they glide by. Each plate is color-coded, so you know how much it costs, and are added up at the end of your meal. You can also order anything off the menu if you don’t see what you want coming around. It’s quite a fun, sociable experience, great if you’re looking for something a bit different.
Have you been to Yo Sushi yet? What are your favorite dishes?
